We prenent ourUnique and expressive vineyards
All our estate vineyards are certified sustainable and we have implemented a biodiversity programme to restore and protect wildlife in the area. We are committed to keeping our land pristine and true to its nature. In the heart of Valpolicella
During our years of experience in winemaking, we have found that one of the main factors in obtaining a quality product is the so-called terroir.
It depends on the relationship between the soil and climate conditions and the operations we carry out in the vineyard.
We strive to make this combination perfect and unique by using and guaranteeing environmentally sustainable cultural methods, both for the careful protection of the environment and our health, but also to mitigate the impact of cultural stress on the soil.
By using agronomic techniques to improve the terroir, we obtain products of exceptional quality.
By having the countryside located in various territories we are able to achieve terroir diversification. This allows us to have different types and qualities of products.
Valpolicella is characterised by the following soil types:
- SOILS OF THE ADIGE PLAIN:
- Increasing texture from moderately fine to coarse
- Very deep soils
- Very calcareous soils in depth
- Slightly calcareous soils in surface
- ALLUVIAL SOILS – MIDDLE AND LOWER COURSE OF LESSINIA STREAMS
- Extremely calcareous
- Moderately alkaline
- High root depth
- Adequate water drainage
- CALCAREOUS MATRIX SOILS (BIANCONE)
- Calcareous
- Marly
- White
- Rosy
- Medium texture with abundant calcareous skeleton
- Adequate drainage
- CALCAREOUS MATRIX SOILS (RED FLAKE)
- Presence of red flake; provides typical pinkish-white hue
- Fine texture
- Abundant calcareous skeleton
- Moderate root explorable portion
- Adequate drainage
- SOILS WITH VOLCANIC ROCK MATRIX
- Slightly alkaline
- Basaltic rocks
- Moderate depth
- Good drainage
The Valpolicella is characterised by a generally continental or sub-continental climate. The proximity to the hills and Lake Garda creates different microclimates.
Winter minimum temperatures are very low in the lowland areas, while in the hilly areas they are always a few degrees higher. In summer, the temperature is always lower in the hills than on the plains, especially during the night when the mountain breeze reaches the valley floor, making the sultry heat persist for many days in a row, even at night.
Winds in Valpolicella are influenced by breezes: valley breeze from the southern quadrants during the day, mountain breeze from the northern quadrants at night.
Of considerable importance for Valpolicella are:
- The Sirocco, a hot humid wind from the south-east that brings heavy rainfall
- The Foehn, a very dry and mild wind even during the winter, which sometimes blows turbulently from the northern quadrants with gusts.
- Wind coming from the north-east, cold and relatively humid, especially on the plains; reaching the Valpolicella as an extension of the Bora of the Upper Adriatic, it is formed by drawing in large amounts of cold air from the Balkans
